Floyd should be the next Community Champion because of his tireless advocacy and community support he provides to both those Living with HIV and those maintaining a negative status. Floyd diagnosed HIV Positive in 1991 and made an oath to himself and his community that HIV will not be the demise of his life nor his community. Floyd worked through the Epidemic that was affecting his social and personal lives of many of his friends and colleagues. Due to the loss and experiences he encountered, Floyd wanted to do more and became the chief executive officer of Brooklyn Community Pride Center . Floyd created a safe space for all LGBTQ identified, the marginalized community individuals and the homeless youth LGBTQ community. Floyd ensured that HIV education, prevention services were developed for all individuals coming in looking for services and support. Floyd created a family environment that is fully embraced by our community. One of the best demonstrated methods of knowing his community needs that Floyd shows is the open door policy he has with community individuals. Floyd invites you in, to have a sit down for coffee, tea or as he puts it, "Name your treat," and he facilitates one of the most down to earth discussions with you about what you would like to see at the Center and he lets you become an advisor right there on the spot. Floyd has now gotten a local Federally Qualified Health Center, Callen -Lorde, to now provide on site behavioral health services for any member of the community needing those services . Floyd is a Champion in the Haystack if I may.
