Joy Malbrough, at National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc-Houston

Dr. Joy is a Southwest Louisiana native, raised to lead through service and support of others. A lifelong learner, Joy is a proud graduate of McNeese State University, Louisiana State University, and The University of Houston, where she earned a doctorate from the Graduate College of Social Work in 2014. She has over 20 years of experience in healthcare, leadership, community engagement and staff development. She loves social work because the transferable nature of the skills lend themselves favorably to endeavors geared to effect real change in our communities and other areas of influence. She lives by the motto, “There is No Box!” This is evidenced by her work as a health equity strategist.. Dr. Malbrough has a passion for people and infuses that passion through service, staff development, leadership/mentoring, community engagement and advocacy. These passions are demonstrated, in part, by the following: Founder and Principal Facilitator of Martin Newman Smith Consulting LLC (Health Equity Strategies & Solutions) Charter Member and current Chapter President of the Houston Metropolitan Chapter of The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Incorporated (NCBW) Co-Chair, NCBW National Health Committee Member of the Collective Impact Planning Committee and Task Force- March of Dimes, Houston/Harris County. Board Member, African American Health Coalition Board Member, The Center for the Healing of Racism Board Member, Bayou Preservation Association Member- Texas Board of Ambassadors, National Marrow Donation Program (NMDP, formerly, Be The Match) Diamond Life Member, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated Dr. Malbrough is also a member of the Houston Area Urban League Guild and past President of the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work Alumni Association Board of Directors. Dr Malbrough is currently working to support PrEP education, awareness and adoption, particularly in Black Women. Lastly and most importantly, she is a dog lover and a hard core Houston Astros & New Orleans Saints fan!
